چکیده

Automatic inspection of petroleum well drilling has became paramount in the last years, mainly because of the crucial importance of saving time and operations during the drilling process in order to avoid some problems, such as the collapse of the well borehole walls. In this paper, we extended another work by proposing a fast petroleum well drilling monitoring through a modified version of the Optimum-Path Forest classifier. Given that the cutting’s volume at the vibrating shale shaker can provide several information about drilling, we used computer vision techniques to extract texture informations from cutting images acquired by a digital camera. A collection of supervised classifiers were applied in order to allow comparisons about their accuracy and effciency. We used the OptimumPath Forest (OPF), EOPF (Efficient OPF), Artificial Neural Network using Multilayer Perceptrons (ANN-MLP) Support Vector Machines (SVM), and a Bayesian Classifier (BC) to assess the robustness of our proposed schema for petroleum well drilling monitoring through cutting image analysis.

Study of Torque, Drag and Hydraulics of a Deviated Drilled Well using Drilling Office Software

Rotational drilling was a revolution in drilling technology. It made the drilling process more efficient and faster and more depth of well could be achieved through rotation method. Besides all of its advantages, the rotation approach induced some problems like pipe sticking and downhole cleaning to the drilling procedure. Hole cleaning and reduction of torque and drag seems to be vital in incl...

Integrated Well Placement and Completion Optimization using Heuristic Algorithms: A Case Study of an Iranian Carbonate Formation

Determination of optimum location for drilling a new well not only requires engineering judgments but also consumes excessive computational time. Additionally, availability of many physical constraints such as the well length, trajectory, and completion type and the numerous affecting parameters including, well type, well numbers, well-control variables prompt that the optimization approaches b...

Petroleum well drilling monitoring through cutting image analysis and artificial intelligence techniques

Petroleum well drilling monitoring has become an important tool for detecting and preventing problems during the well drilling process. In this paper, we propose to assist the drilling process by analyzing the cutting images at the vibrating shake shaker, in which different concentrations of cuttings can indicate possible problems, such as the collapse of the well borehole walls. In such a way,...

Wellbore Trajectory Optimization of an Iranian Oilfield Based on Mud Pressure and Failure Zone

Determination of the borehole and fracture initiation positions is the main aim of a borehole stability analysis. A wellbore trajectory optimization with the help of the mud pressure may be unreasonable since the mud pressure can only reflect the degree of difficulty for the initial damage to occur at the wellbore rather than the extent of the wellbore damage. In this work, we investigate...

Application of Optimum-Path Forest Classifier for Synthetic Material Porosity Segmentation

This paper presents a new application and evaluation of the Optimum-Path Forest (OPF) classifier to accomplish synthetic material porosity segmentation and quantification obtained from optical microscopic images. Sample images of a synthetic material were analyzed and the quality of the results was confirmed by human visual analysis. Additionally, the OPF results were compared against two diffe...
